Manovikas English Medium High School began the Life Skills Resource Room in June 2014. The inception of this beautiful space came from a very supportive and dedicated Management headed by the Chairman, Mr Jose Manuel Noronha. Beginning with one special educator, six students, an attendant, a structured environment and a clean and spacious room, we have come a long way. Ten years down the line, we now have a larger and structured area, six special educators and seventeen full time students in the Life Skills Resource Room which is now known as PRERNA. Our special educators also provide support to the Regular Teachers for students in the regular class who need assistance. The Special Educators conduct informal assessment of students when they initially are admitted, refer them for formal assessments to recognised government institutions, decide and develop IEPs for each child in consultation with the parents. The Functional Curriculum is followed in the Life Skills Resource Room. The special educators also develop and implement behaviour management techniques as per the requirement of the students.
Every effort is made by the special educators with the support of our very dedicated In- charge Tr Brenda Bhandary to include the students in all regular class activities like co-curricular activities, assemblies, outings, cultural programs, sports days and competitions. Some of our academically capable students also attend certain regular classes along with their regular peers.
Annual workshops on various topics are held for parents of our students and for the staff of the school. The special educators also conduct sensitization programs for regular students.
Special days and events are celebrated in the Resource Room for the parents and family members of our students.
We also conduct outings for our students along with their parents. This allows for parents to interact with each other and share experiences, to bond with the teachers and gives both parents and children an opportunity for recreation.
As students attain their adolescense, efforts are made to train the students in pre- vocational skills.
The team of special educators are dedicated to working together with each other, the parents and the regular Teachers to give our students the best facilities that they deserve.
We help students with academic planning, personal and social development, and career guidance. Our counselors provide individual and group sessions to address students' needs. We also offer crisis intervention and collaborate with teachers and parents to support student success. Students are encouraged to seek our assistance for any challenges they face. Together, we strive to create a nurturing and supportive environment for all students.
The Academic Resource Room at Manovikas provides specialized support for students with diverse learning needs, including Specific Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorders, and Mild Intellectual Disability. Our services include:
